When my kids returned to their hometown of Los Angeles this July—each at different points in the month—I used it as the perfect excuse to visit the newly renovated LACMA and its David Geffen Galleries, which officially opened in May 2026. Designed by award-winning architect Peter Zumthor, the museum’s sweeping concrete-and-glass structure stretches nearly 350,000 square feet and even crosses over Wilshire Boulevard. For anyone who hasn’t been yet, the building alone is worth the trip: bold, unusual, and unmistakably L.A. Each of my kids reacted differently to the new space, but all of them left with something positive to say. One practical note before you go: if you’re planning to eat there, be prepared for a long Erewhon line—it thwarted us every time.
