I was pleasantly surprised while watching the movie “Choose Me” to spot Ed Ruscha making an appearance early on in the film. Noticing the name Edward Ruscha in the credits piqued my curiosity, and sure enough, Ed steps into the role with the same calm confidence he brings to his artwork, proving he’s not shy in front of the camera. Directed by Alan Rudolph, the movie itself is pretty engaging. While Ruscha’s performance is a touch stiff, I can’t help but think that with a few more roles under his belt, he’d have grown into a charismatic character actor. He exudes a Dennis Hopper vibe, but with a softer edge and a genuine sense of empathy in his eyes. His role as a radio producer in the film Choose Me is ideally suited to his reserved yet confident personality.
