This is the first large-scale canvas to utilize JMe’s universal icon motif. Composing the canvas with various sized gangsters and starlet images the rich monochromatic reds, pinks and rosewood colors complement the base black and white with golden highlights. St. Valentine’s Day contains a myriad of micro-compositions throughout the surface of the canvas. Looking at different areas you can see mini-narratives that suggest violence, passion or psychological display. The painting employs a dark to light, up to down and painterly to drippy orientation. offering us the viewer / spectator various portals into the exploits and manifestations of the push and pull forces attracting, opposing or subverting the significance of these grand icons.
