Radiance is an excellent example of JMe’s layers of interpretation and meaning lying below a seemingly simple surface. Once again, JonMarc uses broken glass as its focus to create a symbolic light source. Shining or emitting rays, shedding light on a color field of fragmented paint chips below. Radiance’s use of plastic “Hot Wheels” track and connectors to emphasize the light rays and pagan symbols creates a positive twist with the discarded plastic as if to say, “Let’s be inventive in solving our self-induced problems.” If we stand back or squint our eyes, the color field at the bottom of the painting is a landfill of disposable waste or, better still, a crowd gathering for a great event. Radiance’s simplicity with the air of symbolism gives the painting a stoic confidence, instilling hope, rebirth, or delight with each new day rising. Through this interplay of light and fragmented materials, JonMarc masterfully challenges viewers to reimagine the mundane and confront contemporary issues creatively and optimistically. The painting invites contemplation on the duality of perception, reminding us that beauty and meaning can emerge from chaos and waste, encouraging a deeper reflection on our impact and potential for change.
