My daughter and I were watching “House on Haunted Hill” and quickly into the movie we noticed the façade of the “House” was no other than Ennis House by Frank Lloyd Wright here in Los Feliz. Shot at night with the proverbial wet streets and low key lighting the spooky house quickly became spoofy when the actors enter and wind up in the sound stage of Allied Artist studios at 4376 Sunset Drive, what is now a Scientology compound formerly the KCET public television studios. The art direction inside the haunted house runs the gambit between English Tudor nightmare village and the 99¢ Store. This movie reminded me as an early example or influence of the High meets Low concept that flourished in many exhibitions during the Eighties and early Nineties
