Let Them Eat Paint is a humorous painting with a nod toward the old adage made famous by Marie Antoinette, “Let them eat cake.” In addition to the historical nod, this piece is also a commentary for our own economic times. The composition consists of a diagonal silver shape hovering diligently above the multi-colored circle with a painted brown wood grain base below. The circle could be interpreted as a confection, tactile in its presentation within the context of the other flat areas. Simple, geometric and ominous in its arrangement, this work was completed during the WGA / SAG-AFTRA strike and may a comment on the producers and studios reluctance to come to the barging table.
