Radiance is an excellent example of JMe’s layers of interpretation and meaning lying below a seemingly simple surface. Once again, JonMarc uses broken glass to create a symbolic light source as its focus. Shining or emitting rays shed light on a color field of fragmented paint chips below. If we look closely, the color field could be seen as a landfill of disposable waste, but if we stand back or squint our eyes, maybe a crowd of people gather for an event. Radiance’s simplicity with the air of symbolism gives the painting a stoic confidence, instilling hope, rebirth, or delight with each new day rising.
