World Peaces was painted in 1994, the year of the 15th FIFA “World Cup.” Hosted for the first time by the United States, the World Cup prides itself on comradery, fair play, and healthy competition. The “Cup” in the U.S. arrived at a time of accelerated globalization where the “sum parts of the whole” could be manufactured in different areas of the world and then come together at various assembly plants in the native or Country of origin. It was also a time of many wars, armed conflicts, and skirmishes around the war. There was the Afghanistan Civil War, Bosnian / Croatian War, Chechen War, and Congo Civil War, to name a few. World Peaces along with other complimentary art pieces by JMe were shown at a variety of art venues to commemorate the World Cup, but JMe also took these exhibition opportunities to address or question the hypocrisy and commercialism of the World Cup in relation to the escalation of global conflicts. World Peaces from the onset look like the peace sign symbol shattering or a map & pie chart exploding, but upon closer inspection, JMe has carefully collaged the map of the world to the sides of each fragmented piece, emphasizing the point that the world is dimensional (not flat) and metaphorically breaking apart.

World Peaces is a graphic protest and layered reminder that sporting events or capital interests cannot simply ignore World Peace.
